We are excited to share with you our recent feedback from the Mom and Baby Clinics. As the Head and Deputy Head, we are pleased to report on our progress and success.
Expansion to More Communities
So far, we have had two Mom & Baby clinics at Kensington, and we are excited to announce eight more clinics coming up in the next few months. We look forward to extending our services to more communities.
March 4th Mom & Baby Clinic
Our first clinic of the year was a success! We kicked off the clinic with health promotion on the topic of “Flu Season”. The team measured and weighed the children before sending them to see the students. This clinic saw the addition of medical stations, audiology stations, and SHAWCO Social Work students, who provided counselling services and gave a talk on “Self-Care” to the parents. Children had a fun time drawing, dressing up, running races, flying paper aeroplanes, and reading stories. The clinic saw the medics team seeing 25 patients, and the audiology team seeing 10 patients.
April 22nd Mom & Baby Clinic
The second clinic was special for the paediatric patients in Kensington as we brought toys, donated to us by The Crazy Store. We were fortunate enough to host more health-science disciplines like medics, audiologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. The team saw 20 patients, 6 patients, and 16 patients, respectively. This clinic was a fantastic experience for both the patients and the students, with smiles and sounds of laughter from the playing children, which propelled us students through the long day.
May 6th Mom & Baby Clinic
At our upcoming clinic in Hangberg, we are excited to have the University of Western Cape’s dental team and Exercise Science students from UCT and the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. They will play sports with the kids and teach them how to exercise, bringing fantastic energy to the community.
Positive feedback overall
In the past two clinics, we have seen 45 patients across various health science disciplines. The feedback from students has been overall positive, with them saying clinics have felt organized, been fun, and that they have learnt a lot. We sincerely appreciate your donations, which contribute to the free primary-level health services we provide to the mothers and children of vulnerable communities in the Western Cape.
