Streamlining Stock Management: Organising Shelf Stock

In June 2023, Ruth Amoore joined SHAWCO Health and took charge of improving pharmacy stock management. One of the key initiatives undertaken was the organisation of shelf stock. A systematic approach was implemented, arranging the stock alphabetically based on the primary active ingredient, following the International Non-proprietary Names (INN) guidelines. This reorganisation aimed to enhance efficiency and facilitate easy access to medications.

Enhancing Ordering Process: Introducing OrderCo’s Online Platform

The previous phone-based system was replaced with OrderCo’s online platform to streamline the ordering process. This innovative solution allowed efficient searches based on active ingredients and facilitated price comparisons. However, certain challenges were encountered, such as changing the delivery address and obtaining the necessary certification from UPD due to missing BHF certification and practice number details. As a result, alternative suppliers were explored to ensure smooth and reliable operations.

Ensuring Adequate Resuscitation Equipment: Conducting Equipment Audit

Following an incident at the Mom & Baby Clinic, a thorough audit of resuscitation equipment was conducted. This evaluation revealed deficiencies in supplies, prompting necessary actions to replenish and maintain essential equipment. Notably, the oxygen tank was replenished to ensure prompt and effective emergency responses.

Improving Functionality and Efficiency: Acquiring New Haemoglobin Meters

To enhance cost efficiency and functionality, new Haemoglobin Meters were acquired. These devices are crucial in accurately measuring haemoglobin levels, contributing to improved patient care and treatment monitoring.

Optimising Pharmacy Nurses’ Rostering and Stock Monitoring

Efforts were made to streamline pharmacy nurses’ rostering and explore automated stock monitoring systems. By optimising scheduling and exploring technology-driven solutions, SHAWCO Health aimed to enhance operational efficiency and ensure proper management of medication stocks based on drugs dispensed at clinics.

Focus on Waste Management: Addressing Hazardous Waste

Recognising the importance of waste management, SHAWCO Health prioritised efforts to improve the handling of hazardous waste. While progress was made in this area, further attention was needed to enhance overall waste disposal practices. Ongoing efforts will focus on implementing best practices and environmentally friendly solutions to ensure responsible waste management.
