“There is no clinic in Hangberg, there is a clinic, but it is rather far, and patients are not always seen too. On a Wednesday evening, the SHAWCO clinic is constantly fully booked. The community members are in dire need of a clinic and health services, hence why people come to the SHAWCO clinic in such large numbers. Hangberg community members are so grateful for the SHAWCO clinic, it has helped our community with the excellent services the doctors and students provide to the patients. Most of the community members must go outside of the community to receive health services and treatment; they are not seen too, misdiagnosed, and do not receive the proper medical treatment they require.

Feedback from the patients and the comments about the SHAWCO clinics have been nothing but positive and appreciative of the excellent services they have received. If it were not for SHAWCO, we do not know how our patients would have been helped. We have tried endlessly with meetings and assessments to get better services than the white elephant clinic we have here in Hangberg. Patients prefer to come and wait to be helped, assessed, and referred by SHAWCO clinics most of the time.

What the community members appreciate most about being a SHAWCO clinic patient is how they are treated. Being treated with respect and dignity, and the fact that everything is confidential is extremely important to them.

We hope to have the Hangberg evening adult clinic in 2022.
